- Click on the Databases & Journals Tab.
- Under Journal Title, choose “Exact Match” in the drop-down menu for the left-hand box if you have the exact title of your journal.
- Copy-paste or type the complete name of a journal into the right-hand box
- Click on “Search.”
- If no other journal title is close to the one you entered, a page with options will appear. If you are offered a “Go” button next to the name of a database, click on it (if you are offered multiple “Go” buttons, start with the top one and work your way down until you link into a page offering you full-text for the article.
- If there are several journals with similar names, a pop-up box will offer you several journal titles close to the one you want—choose the one that matches (with some titles, you may only get one option, with others, you may have to sift through several pages), hover over it and click on it.
- Several things may happen:
- If you are offered a database-access point, click on Go
- You will often be taken to a page listing all of our years of access.
- Drill down, clicking on the year you want, then the volume, then the title of the article (you may have to look back at your citation for some of these details)—if we have full-text, you will be able to print or save the article
- If you are not offered a database-access point, you will be offered the option to Search MnPALS.
- Click on the Go button for this option—you would be surprised how many times we have the article available in a print journal, located in our Journals section.
- If you find that we do have the journal, click on the very top line of the library record for that journal (there will be a mini “i” next to the top line that means you can get additional information.
- Scroll down, and you will find out which print issues we have on the shelves.
- If we do not have that journal, you can click on the option to get the article through Inter-library loan (ILL).
- You will need to enter your library number (the 14-digit one) and your last name.
- The ILL form will pull in all of the article information.
- Click on the little copyright box to agree to the terms and on the calendar to tell it the last possible date you can use the article…then hit the bottom button to submit the request.
- The article should arrive in your cord email within a few days—when you open it the first time, save it to a flash drive, print it or save it to your personal laptop.
- If you are offered a database-access point, click on Go
